Sulfadiazine is an antihistamine that is the second best antihistamine for the relief of chronic sinus pain.
Sulfadiazine (Sulfadiol) Sulfadiazine, a synthetic analog of sibutramine, was the first antihistamine, in the 1920s, but it is not approved in the United States. The FDA recently approved the antihistamine loratadine, and has approved sibutramine.
Sulfadiazine is a derivative of the natural alkaloid sibutramine. There are several active chemicals in sibutramine and sulfadiazine, but their actions are the same, and the two are the same type of antihistamine. The active chemical in sibutramine is an alkaloid, so it has a similar effect.
The effects of sibutramine in the nasal passage may be due to its ability to block the absorption of other chemicals in the body, or its action as a neurotransmitter. Sibutramine also blocks a part of the action of histamine. Histamine, which is a histamine H1 receptor agonist, binds to the receptor in the nasal cavity, causing nasal congestion.
Sibutramine may also be used for treating insomnia, and reducing the risk of developing lung cancer. It is sometimes used in people with COPD.
